Honesty Booth

Honesty Booth

In grade 11, our class was having financial problems regarding with the plan of the charitable donations and activities that will soon be conducted. Our class generates several kinds of activities with the idea of raising funds and one of the activities is "Honesty Booth" in Bina Tunas Bangsa School. Honesty Booth is a store where all the community in school will be participating in buying the goods sell in every floor of the school. The store is left unattended and does their self service. This store could make students experience their self-service and train them to be honest in paying and getting the change for themselves.  This activity is approved and the store really runs well which we could not do it without the help of our CAS teacher, Mrs. Sheryl.

As you notice they are all showing enthusiasm in buying our snacks. We have earned 2 million and two hundred thousand Rupiah for the income that is gathered within the five days of operating this "Honesty Booth".

This is a creativity, action and service that we are doing in honesty booth, because we plan activities and make way on how to donate, also to make the students involve in this activity. This is an activity that is conducted outside the normal curriculum. It is held on September 14-18 , 2015.

The main objectives that we would like to achieve are:

 (1)  To establish the standard of performance.

 (2)  To develop efficient work methods.

 (3)  To establish the most efficient and effective utilization of human effort.

 (4)  To help in putting efforts towards productivity improvement.

 (5)  To help in learning how to eliminate of the wasteful efforts and useless material handling.

Learning outcomes:

  • Increased awareness of our own strengths and areas for growth
  • Undertaken new challenges
  • Planned and initiated activities
  • Worked collaboratively with others
  • Shown perseverance and commitment in the activities
  • Developed new skills

This activity can be related to each learning outcome such as the cooperation with students and teachers.

We planned this activity 15 days before the launching of the honesty booth. We started to decorate and informing the class about this honesty booth on September 11, 2015, Thursday. We got little time to do everything done in two days. We prepared all of the things needed by consuming our free time and also during our recess time.

Operating the honesty booth is really a tough one because there is high tendency of making a loss and students not being honest. The risks that we must take are that accept those who are not honest in paying and taking the change.

During the day of honesty booth, we work together hand in hand. We divided our tasks with our friends in doing all of the things. We have someone who is assigned to write the price tag list, put the things in different floors,  to be the one who is in charge of the financial statement and many more.

The activity was a successful because it went according to our plan. However, there was a small misunderstanding between one with another. Our CAS coordinator asked us to help each other out and it is better that we can bring as much as food that we can sell in order to gain more profit but then, the one who is in charge for the honesty booth didn’t accept our help in bringing extra food and blaming those who brought their food because they think we are ruining the calculations that they have made. To avoid this incidence, we have to know and estimate the number of foods that we have to prepare.

This activity was very fun and interesting to do whereas this activity has taught me a lot of things such as developing new skills in cooking, working collaboratively with others in order to make this activity a successful one. I hope that we can do this activity again in the future.
