Donation program for physically impaired: Lembaga Daya Dharma Keuskupan Agung

Christmas is fast approaching. Our school is organizing a Christmas event together with the disabled children. As we continue our yearly practice of the true meaning of Christmas, “LOVE OF SHARING”, we students like to share our blessings.

Gifts and Donation to the disabled children
On November 27, 2015 we, the grade 11 and 12 collaborated and started announcing and students were given a letter to be informed about bringing unwanted things that can still be used to be donated to the foundation of “Lembaga Daya Dharma Keuskupan Agung” which helps two hundred physically impaired and their families. This donation event really runs well which we could not do it without the help of our CAS teacher, Mrs. Sheryl.

These donations then are categorize, which took approximately 2 hours for every 3 days from December 2 – 4, 2015 before we donated it to them during our Christmas celebration on December 7, 2015.

I supposedly donated 2 L of oils but instead I donated 4 L. I also donated story books, novel, papers, stationeries, bag and all goods/ commodities that are written in the list. Basically I donated everything from grade 6 to 12 lists. I felt good in giving those items that I can share with them if it would make them happy, it would make me happy as well.

The main objectives that we would like to achieve are:

 (1)  To develop efficient work methods

 (2)  To avoid shutting it off our humanity of helping those in need
 (3)  To inspire those who feel useless because of their disabilities

 (4)  strengthen the links between the affordable one with those in need

 (5)  Promote a positive image of those who have disability

Learning outcomes:

  • Increased your awareness of your own strengths and areas for growth
  • Undertaken new challenges
  • Planned and initiated activities
  • Worked collaboratively with others
  • Shown perseverance and commitment in your activities
  • Developed new skills

Preparing the Christmas celebration sure needs a lot of efforts because we need to organize from the games to the performance. We need to involve all the students to participate in these activities. Also making the event we really do need our teachers help. We couldn’t done it without our teachers who always been there when we need them. We divided our task. Grade 11 and 12 are in charge in the game division and the donation.

3 days before Christmas Celebration, we work together hand in hand and divided each tasks. We divided our tasks with our friends in wrapping the gifts for the disabled children, categorizing things (tea with tea, sugar with sugar etc), categorizing the unwanted clothes according to their gender and age and put it into specified box, putting different kind of goods in a plastic for 200 people and the last but not the least is preparing the things for the games.

Everything went according to our plan. We couldn’t have done it without an effective collaboration, and a pure heart of the willingness to help those people out there who are in need. I was very proud of the students in my school who donated a lot from shelters to clothing. Everyone worked collaboratively and took accountability in their roles. I hope through this service we had actually helped to ease their economic problems and pushing the children to have a greater dreams as well as pursuing them. Never stop hoping and believing. Have faith in it.

The event was so exhausting but fun. It was a whole new stressing joyful experience. I have learnt to have more faith in me and never stop believing in yourself no matter what happens even though people keep on pulling you down, fight for it. If disabled children can do an incredible thing such as talents to play music instruments, we should be better than them because we have everything we need.

First Official publication of BTB School

Official publication of BTB School

Cover page
Different schools will have their own school year book containing all the events that happened during the one whole year in school that includes Bina Tunas Bangsa School. School year book is one of our best memories that last in schools. This year of 2015, I am chosen to be the layout artist for the spotlight, school year leaflets. Our school changed the setting of designing the school year magazine to a leaflet. Spotlight will be designed every quarter. We divided our tasks with 6, 7 and 12 grade. They are the members of the journalisms club in our school. This task is being conducted by Mr. Edison and Ms. Chrissie. They are the one who is guiding us what to do and to improve our skills as well as our knowledge.

Ms. Chrissie pointed me to play an important role of designing the layout of the spotlight to the person in charge of the spotlight, Mr. Edison. I was known to be a good designer that teachers can handle to. I was given the opportunity to develop more skills and this could give me experiences when I enter university. I will know what to do and would be easier for me to catch up with the lessons.

I was being offered 4 days before I met Mr. Edison to have a discussion. On October 30th 2015 I was called to meet up to talk about things and give the files that I should put in the spotlight that I will do during weekend. I got only 2 days to complete the task that is given by him because by Tuesday the spotlight should be submitted to the head. By Monday I submitted and by the end of the day, he will give me the correction I need to revise and make some changes.  Its more than 3 times that I make changes to the spotlight. It sure is a tiring task to do. One change will affect everything.

Second and Third page

The main objectives that we would like to achieve are:

(1)   To let the students get the opportunity to show the world their talents are

(2)   Appreciate the important role of teachers on the journey of their learning

(3)  To let the students experience what is it like to work with someone and be cooperative

Learning outcomes:

  • Increased your awareness of your own strengths and areas for growth
  • Undertaken new challenges
  • Planned and initiated activities
  • Worked collaboratively with others
  • Shown perseverance and commitment in your activities
  • Developed new skills

Working with the spotlight really needs a talent to accomplish it. I got the offer and at the same time I got to be promoted. The risk that we must take is to accept whatever criticisms you got. Don’t mind how people will look at you and judge you. If you have just been assigned to do a task, take the time to listen to others in the people who would try to give suggestion and advice. Be involved in the process, as there will be a process that sorts out responsibilities and leadership roles (whether official or not), but open your mind and realize teamwork takes patience, understanding, and mutual respect and support. This is where I started to learn to be patience and open-minded to be successful.

The spotlight was a successful because it was accepted and the heads were satisfied with the real outcome. However, I never thought that there were students who were involved in criticizing my work.

Back cover page
Gladly, the spotlight outcome satisfied everyone and most especially to the eyes of teachers and the head. It was published on 19th November 2015. I am thankful that they appreciated my work. Putting faith, trust and believe in me is not something that everyone could achieve easily.

This task is one of the meaningful one for me where I can feel I am wanted and they and putting trust in me. It is an interesting thing to do where I can work collaboratively with the teachers ahead of me. They gave me some tips in working with the leaflets such as the arrangement of the pictures. This task has taught me a lot of things such as working collaboratively with the higher position on how to be more open-minded and responsive. I admit it was a demanding task but at the same time I enjoyed learning new concepts. It is often a team victory we rejoice in and remember above all others. The team environment can be very rewarding and a team’s success does depend on you, the individual. Your commitment to your team, despite obstacles, is vital to its success.

Happy Teachers Day

Happy Teachers Day

We all celebrated teachers’ day all over the world on a certain date. In many countries, Teachers’ day is a special day for the appreciation of teachers, and may include celebration to honor them for their contributions in a particular field area, or the community in general.  While us in Indonesia specifically in Jakarta we celebrated on October 5th 2015 in Bina Tunas Bangsa School.

A teacher plays great role in student’s lives. Teachers are real shapers of future of the students which can never be ignored. Teachers make their own lesson plan to make education more effective and interesting as well as facilitate students learning. The role of teachers is very significant, therefore on this teacher’s day celebration we pay our utmost respect and gratitude to them as a day of special teacher- student bonding.

Singing and band performances

On this day our grade 11 students arrange and perform various types of programs as a token of love and respect towards our teachers. I am the one who is in charge of this teachers’ day. I planned everything and divided the tasks to all of my friends who will do what and what’s their role. I also got some helped with the arrangement of the performances from our music teacher, Mr. Jimmy. The performances include singing and having a band. Those who participate in the performances are not only from my class but also from lower classes.

Outstanding teachers are also given prizes such as chocolate and certificate for their contribution in the development of schools and bringing good results from students. We involve all the students to give chocolate to their teachers. Our class involve in giving cookies to the teachers. Students also give personal gifts to their favorite teachers to express their affection and gratitude. Teachers also feel special at their hard work and honesty is recognized on this day.

The main objectives that we would like to achieve are:

(1)   To let the students appreciate the important role of teachers on the journey of their learning

(2)   To let the teachers feel their significant in the life of the students

Learning outcomes:

  • Increased your awareness of your own strengths and areas for growth
  • Undertaken new challenges
  • Planned and initiated activities
  • Worked collaboratively with others
  • Shown perseverance and commitment in your activities
  • Developed new skills

Decorating the assembly hall
We planned this activity for 3 weeks before the event of teachers’ day. We started to decorate the assembly hall 3 days before the day and we started informing the class about the upcoming event of teachers day a week before. We are raising the fund by asking the middle and high school students to donate 5 thousand rupiah each for the sake of buying chocolate and the ingredients to make cookies. We don’t force the students to donate because we told them this money is served as our gratitude towards the teacher.

We got little time to do everything done in 2 weeks time because we cannot do the program and activities in school since there are lots of teachers who are monitoring us what we are doing. We prepared all of the things needed by consuming our time at home.

Cookies making
Preparing the teachers day event is really complicated because we need to involve all the students to participate in these activities. Also making the event we do it secretly to surprise the teacher. We make sure no teachers will know about the program as well as the sequence that we are doing for them. The risks that we must take are that accept those who cannot be trusted not to tell to any teachers who they are close with. We also need to consider the risks if the students didn’t distribute the chocolate evenly whereas some of the teachers wouldn’t get the cookies as well as the chocolates, by that we need to apologize for that.

During the day of teachers’ day, we work together hand in hand and divided each tasks. We divided our tasks with our friends in giving the certificate, giving chocolates, giving cookies, being the emcee and the sound system controller. We have someone who is assigned to inform and give directions when to give the teachers the chocolate.

The activity wasn’t that successful because it didn’t go according to our plan. In the middle of the program after distributing the certificate to the teachers, we are being stopped by the principal and the vice principal because we are told that we are being unfair in giving the certificate because we don’t give to all of the teachers while some of them were being called up on stage twice to receive the certificate. Giving this certificate to some of the teachers is based on the voting’s from middle school to high school students. We don’t want to be bias and being unfair. Those teachers who didn’t receive any certificate they felt bad, as if they are unloved and ignored. However, I tried to talk to the vice principal, Ms Paul, to allow us to finish the program because the program isn’t finished yet and chocolates haven’t been distributed to all the teachers where all students will be participating in these activities. I want to make sure that every teacher must receive chocolates. Since the program is stopped all the sequence is not in order. Students just give the chocolates to whomever and whenever they like without the instruction given to them. Seeing the program all messed up, we decided to end the program because we felt sad, ashamed and disappointed. The program didn’t go as smooth as what we expected. After the distribution of the chocolate we ended the program even though there is still performance that is waiting for. To avoid this incidence, teachers should have leaved the program to the students who they have assigned and whom they trust. Let them run the program with the assist of the teachers. Trust is an important role to run activities like this. We have to trust one another in order to run the program as smooth as possible.

This Teachers’ day event was very disappointing to the eyes of many students and some of the teachers, but we are thankful that they appreciated what we have done and they can understand the hard work that we had made and what we are trying to imply for them. This program is a meaningful activity for me where I can feel the joy of the teachers and yet it makes me happy as well. It is an interesting thing to do where we can work together as a friend and make enjoy the fun together. This activity has taught me a lot of things such as working collaboratively with my friends though we are exhausted but at the same time we enjoyed a lot. Don’t bring stress while we are working just enjoy and have fun. Bring happiness and do it heartily. I hope that we can do this activity again in the future where we can share the happiness together.

Sports day cafe

Sports day Café

The sports day is being conducted 3 times in Bina Tunas Bangsa School this year. It is held on 21st -22nd of September and 1st of October 2015. During the sports day our grade 11 class decided to make a café booth to serve all of the students and even the teachers with savory foods. We divided the tasks with grade 12, where we serve food and the grade 12 serve drinks. The purpose of this booth is for charity donations, the idea of raising funds. Within the 3 days of sports day, the café booth is held on the grand finale of the games which is on 1st October 2015. It is set on the last day of Sports day activities.

The sports day café booth is set at the side of the court. We spent 2 days for the preparation of the menus and the ingredients that need to be bought. We prepared the food one day before the sports day. Some of my friends: Anissa, Leony Bryan, Leony Florencia, Vanessa, and Audrey went to my house to help in preparing the ingredients. Also two of them, Leony Bryan and Vanessa slept over in my house due to the undone preparation.

We went to Carrefour supermarket to buy the ingredients
It was October 1st, the day has come. My friends and I who slept over woke up by 5 in the morning to prepare the sandwich and fried meatballs with nuggets. We also got some help in preparing the ingredients from my mother. We panicked because it’s almost 7.15 and we haven’t done cooking. That time we should be going already if not we are late for school. We ended up arriving in school 7.20 a.m. I’m glad there’s no punishment. Upon arriving, we were in a rushed in arranging the booth with 2 sets of tables and putting all the stuffs.

We sold noodle cup ,salad, sandwich, roasted bread, sausages, French fries and meatballs with nuggets.

The booth is really a crowded stall. Students began to visit and buy our food from 8.30-9.15. We divided the task and we help each other out in cooking, serving and also the change of the money. It was really a tiring day however we have a lot of fun serving the students. As you notice they are all showing enthusiasm in buying our food. We have earned 5 hundred thousand rupiah for the profit that is gathered for only 1 day operation of this "Sports day café Booth".
This is a creativity, action and service that we are doing in Sports day café booth, because we plan the activities and make way on how to donate, also to make the students involve in this activity. This is an activity that is conducted outside the normal curriculum. We got the chance to open up this booth.

The main objectives that we would like to achieve are:
 (1)  To serve the students patiently, and manage to get a good impressions.
 (2)  To develop efficient work methods.
 (3)  To help in learning persuasion skills to buy the product with a positive language.
 (4)  To help in putting efforts towards productivity improvement.
 (5)  To help in learning how to eliminate of the wasteful efforts and useless material handling.
 (6)  Improving the interactions with customers (clear communication skills)

Learning outcomes:

  • Increased awareness of our own strengths and areas for growth
  • Undertaken new challenges
  • Planned and initiated activities
  • Worked collaboratively with others
  • Shown perseverance and commitment in the activities
  • Developed new skills

This activity can be related to each learning outcome such as the interaction with students and teachers.

We planned this activity a month before the launching of the Sports day café booth. Operating the Sports day café booth is really a challenging one because when 1 student buy the food, all of his/her classmates came in a big group of people to buy our food. We panicked and cramped at the same time in serving all of them who came uncontrollably. The risk that we must face is that accept those who left our booth in not buying our food; losing customers.

The activity was a successful because it went according to our plan. However, we never thought that there will be a lot of students will buy our food and come in a group. We thought 4 of our friends could handle the booth because of not that much menus we are serving but it turns out wrong. We need more than 6 people to handle the booth. To avoid this incidence, we have to know and estimate the number of people in serving and handling the foods in the booth. We should be more prepared in handling the booth and most especially having tissues on our side because, our hand has been so dirty due to the seasoning of the noodle. We are avoiding bad reputation on how we were serving the students with dirty hand. We were trying to maintain a hygienic serving.

This activity make me so exhausted yet it was very fun and interesting to do whereas this activity has taught me a lot of things such as developing new skills in serving and working collaboratively with others in order to make this activity a successful one. I hope that we can do this activity again in the future.

Honesty Booth

Honesty Booth

In grade 11, our class was having financial problems regarding with the plan of the charitable donations and activities that will soon be conducted. Our class generates several kinds of activities with the idea of raising funds and one of the activities is "Honesty Booth" in Bina Tunas Bangsa School. Honesty Booth is a store where all the community in school will be participating in buying the goods sell in every floor of the school. The store is left unattended and does their self service. This store could make students experience their self-service and train them to be honest in paying and getting the change for themselves.  This activity is approved and the store really runs well which we could not do it without the help of our CAS teacher, Mrs. Sheryl.

As you notice they are all showing enthusiasm in buying our snacks. We have earned 2 million and two hundred thousand Rupiah for the income that is gathered within the five days of operating this "Honesty Booth".

This is a creativity, action and service that we are doing in honesty booth, because we plan activities and make way on how to donate, also to make the students involve in this activity. This is an activity that is conducted outside the normal curriculum. It is held on September 14-18 , 2015.

The main objectives that we would like to achieve are:

 (1)  To establish the standard of performance.

 (2)  To develop efficient work methods.

 (3)  To establish the most efficient and effective utilization of human effort.

 (4)  To help in putting efforts towards productivity improvement.

 (5)  To help in learning how to eliminate of the wasteful efforts and useless material handling.

Learning outcomes:

  • Increased awareness of our own strengths and areas for growth
  • Undertaken new challenges
  • Planned and initiated activities
  • Worked collaboratively with others
  • Shown perseverance and commitment in the activities
  • Developed new skills

This activity can be related to each learning outcome such as the cooperation with students and teachers.

We planned this activity 15 days before the launching of the honesty booth. We started to decorate and informing the class about this honesty booth on September 11, 2015, Thursday. We got little time to do everything done in two days. We prepared all of the things needed by consuming our free time and also during our recess time.

Operating the honesty booth is really a tough one because there is high tendency of making a loss and students not being honest. The risks that we must take are that accept those who are not honest in paying and taking the change.

During the day of honesty booth, we work together hand in hand. We divided our tasks with our friends in doing all of the things. We have someone who is assigned to write the price tag list, put the things in different floors,  to be the one who is in charge of the financial statement and many more.

The activity was a successful because it went according to our plan. However, there was a small misunderstanding between one with another. Our CAS coordinator asked us to help each other out and it is better that we can bring as much as food that we can sell in order to gain more profit but then, the one who is in charge for the honesty booth didn’t accept our help in bringing extra food and blaming those who brought their food because they think we are ruining the calculations that they have made. To avoid this incidence, we have to know and estimate the number of foods that we have to prepare.

This activity was very fun and interesting to do whereas this activity has taught me a lot of things such as developing new skills in cooking, working collaboratively with others in order to make this activity a successful one. I hope that we can do this activity again in the future.
